Quilts by Donna - Special, or not so special?

What makes Donna Sharp quilts so special?
They have beautiful designs. They are handcrafted withkeen attention to detail. They feature twice the stitch rate of some other cheap brands found atWal-mart or K-mart.
But are they really special?
Donna Sharp will tell you that she is a Kentucky native and 5th generation quilter. She will tell you that sheselects her own fabrics and applies her unique gift for color and design to this traditional American art form making each quilt, handbag and accessory a stunning success.
What you have to ask yourself is "Are the worth double the price of other high-quality quilts?
To answer that question you need to know that the pieces for her quilts are MACHINE cut and pieced together here in the US, but then she ships them to China for the hand-stitching. There's no doubt they watch the quality, but most manufacturers do or they wouldn't be in business long. So why does she think her quilts are worth more than so many other quilt manufacturers that do the same thing?
Here's the secret her loyalists won't share.. Donna has artifically raised the "demand" for their quilts by eliminating gepetition and cutting manysmallonline retailers out of her list of dealers. This leads the consumer to believe a quilt from Quilts by Donna is "Special" and hard to find. It also allows her select friends to keep the prices high.
Check it out.. Look for Quilts by Donna on okay.. she won't allow a retailer to sell on okay. Look for them anywhere on the web. There are only a couple retailers selling them online and the prices are very high. Why? Because she has very strict requirements to sell online.. These requirements were a surprize to most all online retailer in early December of 2005. Just as the Holiday season was in high gear Donna Sharp Quilts pulled the plug on her loyal online retailers and refused to sell to them if they were selling online!
The whole purpose of this was to create the impression that her mass produced quilts (machine-cut and pieced) were of a higher quality than many other heirloom quality quilts. But it isn't really so. Personally, I think she's pulling the quilt over her customers eyes.. all because a marketing guru told her itwould bring in moreingee.
Look at other quilt manufacturers lines and you'll find incredible patterns and styles at reasonable prices. If you want a Quilts by Donna (Donna Sharp) quilt and are willing to payapremium price then by all meansgo for it.But you won't find it new on okay!Is a Donna Sharp quilts really any more true heirloom quality than any other quilt? You decide and pay what you are willing to pay.
Maybe a Donna Sharp quilt isn't so special after all!
