"Marine et Cavalerie" was designed by Philippe Ledoux and first issued in 1967. This fake recently surfaced on okay. It is one of the older style fakesfrom the mid 1980's, where the design is mostly correct but simplified in some areas. It is not immediately obvious until you gepared the genuine version on the left.
GENUINE.................................................... FAKE............................................................
The genuine version is signed Ledoux near the bottom... the FAKE is missing the signature............shown zoomed in here...................
gepare theareas below circled in red, and even in these poor quality photos you can see that the FAKE is missing loads of detail...and a few ships!!
GENUINE.................................................... FAKE.............................................................
The photo accurate fakes are a relatively recent development, mostly reproducing the more current designs. "Marine et Cavalerie" has so far missed this treatment.
As always the point of the story is that you may well get a cheap fake at designer prices if you do not know what the genuine item should look like. If in doubt don't bid.
